Rewrite the Recipe

Continuing the Change the Odds campaign, we created Rewrite the Recipe - a content series aimed at reducing stigma and encouraging open, vital discussions about breast and prostate cancer risks in Black families. Fueled by the powerful insight that Black families are far more likely to share family recipes than family health history, we channeled food as a medium to connect and share stories. The series sought to improve survival rates by encouraging early detection and proactive health management, with all content driving to information on cancer risks and resources through the American Cancer Society.

Ebonie’s Story

Ebonie and Tia chopped it up literally and figuratively.
They prepared salmon croquettes and discussed how food connects generations, as well as what we can learn from our loved ones about strength and communication.

Chas’s Story

Chas didn’t share the secret ingredients of his chicken seasoning, but he did share insights about how men speak (and don’t speak) about the hard truths of prostate cancer.

Tasha’s Story

Tia spoke with Tasha about how she encountered and overcame cancer with the support of her family. They chatted while preparing the comforting dish of Spaghetti and Catfish.

DR. ARIF KAMAL

We extended the content series by talking to the Chief Patient Officer of the American Cancer Society, Dr. Arif Kamal. We integrated quotes from an interview with clips from our episodes to create an informative piece of social content for Black History Month.
